The Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, MN, is a historic venue that has been a cultural cornerstone in the city since its opening in 1921. Originally built as a vaudeville house and first named the Hennepin, the Orpheum was part of the Orpheum Circuit, a famous chain of theaters that hosted vaudeville performances across the United States. With its elegant Beaux-Arts architecture and luxurious interiors, the theater quickly became known as one of the finest venues in the Midwest. Over the years, it has undergone various transformations, including renovations and expansions, to maintain its grandeur and adapt to changing entertainment demands.

In the 1940s, as vaudeville declined, the Orpheum shifted its focus to become a movie theater. However, by the 1970s, it was restored to its original purpose as a live performance venue, thanks to the efforts of the Minneapolis community and generous local donors. In 1993, it underwent a major renovation funded by the Historic Theatre Group. The stage was extended, and the back wall of the theatre was also moved to make the stage deeper. This allowed for larger touring productions to perform there. After renovations, the Orpheum opened its doors once again to live music, Broadway shows, and other theatrical performances. These renovations helped to preserve its historical charm while updating the amenities to meet modern standards, including state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems that enhance the audience experience.

Today, the Orpheum Theatre has a seating capacity of 2579, making it one of the largest theaters in Minnesota. This spacious yet intimate setting allows audiences to fully immerse themselves in the performances, whether they're watching a Broadway show, a stand-up comedy act, or a concert by a world-renowned musician. The theater’s detailed architecture and impeccable acoustics offer an extraordinary ambiance, contributing to its reputation as one of Minneapolis's most cherished performance spaces.

Over the years, the Orpheum has hosted an impressive lineup of performers, from legendary artists like Bob Dylan and Prince to modern pop icons such as Adele and Lizzo. The theater also regularly features touring Broadway productions, drawing theater lovers from across the Midwest to experience shows like Hamilton, Les Misérables, and The Phantom of the Opera. Its stage has welcomed a diverse range of talent, cementing the Orpheum Theatre's reputation as a premier destination for top-tier entertainment in Minneapolis.
